UK to Tax Online Gambling Freebies
A number of UK newspapers have recently reported that the government is expected to tax free spins and bonuses offered by online casinos.

chartThe reason given is the fact that bonuses and other freebies offered by land based sports betting operators are already subject to tax and they, therefore, have to ensure a level playing field between online and land based gambling.

The additional taxes are planned to be enforced from autumn of next year by the Revenue and Customs department.

According to the chief of the Remote Gaming Association, Clive Hawkswood, the government had budgeted tax revenue of £300 million from the point of consumption taxes being levied on offshore operators by way of 15% Remote Gaming Duty.   Hawkswood added that the industry is, however, already paying double the amount and that since the tax was introduced, the industry has been growing by about 10% a year, contributing to the higher tax receipts.
