The Rules of Pai Gow Poker

Pai Gow Poker is a popular casino game that’s played online and is available in most online casinos.

It’s not a difficult game to play and holds more interest that a lot of casino games due to the player being more involved and having to select which hands to play.  You may also see it called simply Paigow.

The player places a bet on the table and then seven cards are dealt, both to the player and the casino dealer. The player and the dealer have to separate the cards into two separate hands to play. You obviously want both hands to beat the dealers.

Before we explain the rules further, it is assumed that you are aware of the values of a poker hand and how they are made up. If you aren’t click, Pai Gow Poker Hands for a quick overview before continuing.

The player must arrange their cards into two hands, one of five cards and one of two. The five card hand must be higher in value than the two card hand. As an example, if the two card hand contained a pair of Jacks, the five card hand must have a ranking hand of at least a pair of Queens.

Once the cards have been split into the relative hands, they are laid on the table and the dealer shows his two hands. The dealers two card hand is compared with the players two card and also the two five card hands are compared. The higher hand in each case is the winner.

If the player wins both hands the dealer pays out the amount that was staked by the player.

If the dealer wins one hand and the player wins the other then it is declared a ‘push’ and the players stake is returned

If the dealer wins both hands then the casino wins the player’s stake.

If either hand is a tie then the dealer wins that hand. This is what gives the dealer a slight advantage over the player.

Pai Gow is an interesting casino game to play and players familiar with poker will enjoy it immensely.
