British Columbia Casino Crashes on First Day of Operation

The long awaited PlayNow online casino that was launched by the Canadian British Columbia Lottery Corporation last week could not withstand the huge number of players who flooded the site on the first day of opening, and had to temporarily suspend operations.

There were fears that the system had been accessed by hackers after the accounts of other players were available for all to see, but the BCLC denied that this was the case.

“It’s just a case of getting the infrastructure right,” said David Loveday, CE of Open Bet, which developed the software for the new site. “It’s not the first time this has happened in the industry. It’s unfortunate for all of us, it’s very hard to predict volumes.”
