Antigua Asks Gambling Dispute Help
Antigua Asks for Help in US Gambling Dispute.
The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Dr. Baldwin Spenser, asked for international assistance in the ongoing case between itself and the United States.
In 2004, after the US introduced gambling legislation that stopped cross border gaming and betting services, the WTO ordered the super power to compensate Antigua for going against regional treaties.
Unfortunately, nothing has been done in the matter and the Caribbean island state turned to CARICOM in the hope of getting things moving once more.
"Given the debilitating effect of the fiscal and economic crisis on our economy and the apparent disinterest of the United States in dealing decisively with this matter, Antigua and Barbuda may have no other choice but to signal to the WTO that we wish to impose sanctions," said Dr. Baldwin Spencer, Antigua’s PM.
