Ireland Reviews Gambling Laws
The Irish government would consider changing its current gambling laws to incorporate a regulated online gambling industry if several considerations were followed, said a spokesman for the Irish Minister of Justice.
“This review will provide government with options for a new and comprehensive legal and organizational framework governing the gambling architecture in the state, including remote gambling,” said a government spokesman.
“Three important considerations, which are the hallmark of most well regulated gambling codes, inform the review.” The spokesman said these considerations included the protection of young and vulnerable people, a crime free industry and fair and transparent gaming.
Currently Paddy Power are the largest online Irish gaming group, however, they currently use Alderney as a base for their online operations due to Irish legislation.
