UIGEA Implemented in the US

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act came into effect in the United States on June 1st, after attempts to have the law put off for another six months failed by poker and gambling groups.

Nevertheless, while banks will need to block the transfer of payments to and from online gambling sites, the UIGEA will have very little impact on the average gambler, with most sites continuing with a “business as usual” policy.

Many believe that the UIGEA will do nothing to stop millions of Americans gambling online, and will only drive home the fact that a legalised and regulated industry is required in the US.
