Good News for Canadian Poker Players

The Canadian province of British Columbia has joined the provincial race to bring citizens legalized and regulated online poker. BC, as well as Quebec and the Maritimes made the logical decision to launch a government regulate online poker site that will allow players to enjoy peer to peer gaming in a safe environment.

Money that was traditionally channeled to offshore poker sites will now find its way into provincial coffers and benefit residents. The minister responsible for gambling in BC, Richard Coleman, said that he expects the new site to be up and running by September this year.

Such a shame that the Canadians are following what some in the US want and not opening up the online poker industry to a regulated environment, much like the UK Government did.  A Canadian based only site will attract a lot of players but the mainstream poker players will still prefer to play in the larger sites where there is more poker action and a greater diversity of action on the felt.
