Poker is a Sport in Lithuania

The Lithuanian government, through the website of the country’s Physical Education department, announced that from now on, poker is considered an official sport.

This means that the game of poker can be played outside of casinos as long as it does not played for profit. It also means that national funding will be given towards the sport.

“This is an extremely important step in our work,” said the President for the Lithuanian Sports Poker Federation, Andrius Tapinas.

“We are receiving congratulations from many of our colleagues abroad and I know that we are breaking thick ice with our progress for similar international initiatives.”
