Tough Week for Online Gambling in the US and China
It's been a tough week for online gambling in both the United States of America and also China this week as both saw an increased level of non-compliance issues with banking and money handling being ironed out. Mastercard have backed gambling transactions and China are set to obliterate online gambling in the country.
China Gets Tougher on Online Gambling
China said this week that eight government departments were joining forces to launch a new campaign that will obliterate online casino gambling from the country. A government official said that the new campaign would target “major and severe cases, uproot domestic and foreign groups that organize online gambling, and severely punish criminals.”
Underground banking groups and third party payment processors would also be targeted. Chinese officials are continuously trying to get tough on internet betting in the country, although Chinese players are usually able to access sites and play online.
Mastercard Nixes US Online Gambling
MasterCard caused an upheaval in the online gambling world this week after players suddenly found themselves unable to pay with their credit cards at their favorite online casino and poker sites.
While it is believed that the payment processor has been trying for some time to block online gambling linked transactions, this is the first time that MasterCard has managed to do so on a long term scale. Online gambling industry experts are now watching to see whether Visa, MasterCard’s rival, will also begin clamping down on internet gambling transactions.
