UK Bookmakers Left Red Faced
UK Bookmakers Left Red Faced over Christmas No. 1 Hit.
UK bookmakers were left with major losses after being forced to cough up the cash, following a successful Facebook campaign to keep XFactor, Joe McElderry’s song from reaching the top of the UK Christmas charts.
The campaign urged consumers to buy a single by the rock group, Rage Against the Machine instead, to protest Simon Cowell’s dominance of the airwaves each holiday season.
The protest worked and McElderry had to make do with second spot, despite the fact that he had been bookies’ favorite for weeks. “We'll probably take quite a hit, quite possibly a six or seven figure hit,” said a spokesperson for UK bookie, William Hill.
“We started the day with festive cheer, which turned into festive fear and now we are just in a festive rage.”
Luckily for Joe McElderry, it looks like his, soon to be hit single, a remake of the Miley Cyrus song "The Climb" will make it to number one in the charts for the New Year, bringing the charts into the next decade.
