UK Gambling Report “Based on Myths”

Gambling Industry Says UK Report “Based on Myths.”

A new report issued by Prof. Mark Griffiths of Nottingham Trent University, entitled “Problem Gambling in Europe: An Overview,” has been dismissed by online gambling executives for being based on “myths.”

The study highlights the fact that one third of European governments have not conducted in depth studies into problem gambling in their countries.

“I have become increasingly concerned that this debate is informed by little or no information and the argumentation seems to be based on myths appealing to emotion rather than facts informing reason and leading to policymaking,” said the Deputy MD of StanleyBet, Adrian Morris.

“Unfortunately, to this day, it seems that emotion continues to overrule facts.”

The gambling industry is always having to fend off unsubstanciated reports of problem gambling but a UK Government report issued last year reported that gambling was not on the increase in the UK but more problem gamblers were seeking help due to the internet making it easier to find help.
