BetonSports Kaplan Gets Jail

Founder of BetOnSports, the US sportsbetting group which ceased operations in 2007, was sentenced to 51 months in prison this week for illegal gambling activities.

Arrested nearly 3 years ago, Gary Kaplan has spent the time under house arrest waiting for a deal to be reached with the DOJ, which was completed last month.

He will also pay a forfeiture of $43.7 million. “Gary Kaplan was sentenced to the maximum under the plea agreement which sends a message to those operating illegal offshore gambling enterprises,” said the Missouri FBI.

“In addition to being in prison, hopefully some of the money forfeited will go to useful purposes such as fighting other Internet-related crimes, such as catching child predators who think they can hide on-line.”
