Poker is a Game of Skill, says US Judge
Online poker players have come out in praise of a recent ruling in a South Carolina court, where the judge declared poker to be a game of skill.
The court used the predominance test to show that there were more elements of skill than chance in poker and therefore the five accused could not be charged with illegal gambling activities.
“Poker is not a crime in South Carolina or anywhere else, and we are grateful to the court for compiling the overwhelming evidence that proves this case and protects the rights of players,” said John Pappas, Director of the Poker Players Alliance.
“This ruling is fully consistent with the declarations of other judges and juries across the country that Texas Holdem is clearly a game of predominant skill and adults who play should not be criminalized.”
