David Carruthers Changes Plea to Not Guilty - UIGEA
David Carruthers, former head of BetonSports betting group, who has been under house arrest in the US since 2006, raised eyebrows this week after his changed his plea deal from ‘guilty’ to ‘not guilty’.
A deal was expected to be struck with Carruthers, and would see the UK native sentenced to 33 months in jail. His lawyers were expected to ask the judge to consider Carruthers’ years under house arrest as part of his sentence. It is unclear why Carruthers changed his plea, and none of the parties involved are commenting on the 52-year-old’s decision.
Whatever the final outcome, this twist has added extra dimension to the whole affair and there must be some logic in the changing of David Carruthers' plea. We wait to see what the next step in this battle will be but for now, on the face of it, the Carruthers team are obviously changing tact and have another plan up their sleeves.
