ASA Says No to Betfair Ad

Betfair Poker was forced to pull an ad from the UK media after the Advertising Standards Authority said that the campaign had the potential to attract younger players.

The online Betfair Poker ad features poker player, Annette Obrestad with the words: “Online experience is measured in games, not years. Join the breed. Annette_15”.

The main complaint about the ad was the fact that Obrestad’s handle name could be misinterpreted to mean that she was 15 years old.

In a statement issued by ASA, Betfair reportedly “said Ms Obrestad was featured in the ad not because of her age but because of her standing as a poker professional and champion who had had a profound effect on the game.

They said Ms Obrestad, at 20 years of age, was an adult, outside the definition of a child or a young person under the code and the Gambling Act.”
