American Express Says No to Online Gambling

Giant US credit card company, American Express, said in a statement that it did not, as a policy, back payments that originated to or from gambling locations, following reports that some sites are advertising American Express services.

It was found that these sites were using a loophole by tagging gambling services as something else, thus managing to get the group to process payment.

“It is a long standing policy that American Express cannot be accepted for gambling - either online or offline,” said the Vice President of American Express, Christine Elliott. “Any merchant found in violation of this policy is terminated immediately from card acceptance.”
