Guilty Plea for Bet on Sports Exec

After eight years, the US authorities have finally managed to get the founder of one of the greatest sportsbetting operations, BetonSports to plead guilty to illegal wagering activities in the US.

Gary Kaplan was arrested in 2007 and has since been kept in custody. This week, it was announced that a plea bargain had been reached in the case, with Kaplan agreeing on a forfeiture sum totaling $43 million in return for 41 – 51 months in prison.

“Today's guilty plea should have a lasting effect because Kaplan was not only the founder of BetOnSports, he was also one of the pioneers of illegal online gambling," said John V. Gillies, an FBI officer working on the case.
