Responsible Gambling Legislation

Canada adopts a new sensible gambling concept while Belgium gets rapped by the European Commission for it's new draft online gambling legislation.

Canadian Lottery Adopts Responsible Gaming Program

A new responsible gaming program has been initiated by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation and has been highly praised across the board.

One of the most innovative elements of the system is the GameSense concept, which essentially teaches players through a wide range of methods how to make wise gambling choices. The program will also use national TV to carry across its message.

“GameSense is really about balancing the fun element of play and individual choice with the need to exercise a sense of control and stay within one's boundaries when participating in games of chance,” said the President and CEO of British Columbia Lottery Corporation, Michael Graydon.

EC Disapproves of Belgium’s New Gambling Legislation

Belgium may need to draw up an entire new draft for its online gambling legislation after the European Commission turned down the country’s application to have the law approved.

After studying the legislation, the EC determined that the terms of the law went against the spirit of free trade that is the flagship principle of the Commission and therefore demanded that Belgium introduce a new draft. If the country still decides to go ahead with the law in its present form, it could face prosecution by the European Court of Justice.
