Legal Online Gambling in California and Australia?

Two legal gambling related news stories this week, one regarding online gambling in California and the other in Australia.  Both areas seem to be making significant steps to regulating and allowing legal gambling to take place, which will force out non-legal entities.  Seems like sense to us.

Will Online Poker Be Legal in California Soon?

Online poker players in California are gearing up to welcome this pastime in their state, after the first bill to regulate and legalize internet poker playing was published last week.

While online poker will be limited to intrastate for the moment, analysts believe that this is only the first step.

“This could be the start to allowing us the freedom to do what we want with our free time and gamble online,” noted one industry observer. “If California shows that online gambling can be successfully regulated, then other states may follow.”

Betfair Advises Aussie Govt on Internet Gambling

Betfair gambling group has entered its comments into a submission to the Australian government’s Productivity Commission, in a bid to get its opinion heard about legalizing and regulating online casino and poker gaming in the country.

Betfair said that despite continued efforts by the government to prevent this form of entertainment, millions of Australians wager online anyway.

“Betfair advocates an approach based on regulation, rather than attempts to prohibit the activity,” said the group. “Only through regulation can effective player protection be enforced in the online environment.”
