Antigua's Ongoing Gambling Conflict

The Caribbean island of Antigua has said that it will continue negotiating with the United States over money due to it as compensation for going against WTO treaties in the region.

The US was ordered to pay Antigua $21 million a year yet no payment has been seen as yet. Mark Mendel, representing Antigua, said that the island was willing to be flexible with its demands.

“Antigua still retains its ability to contest the withdrawal of the American commitment to the provisions of cross border gambling and betting services, and it still has the right to suspend United States intellectual property rights,” said Mendel.

“However, the Antiguan government has decided to exhaust its settlement options prior to taking any further WTO action.”
