UIGEA Plans Underway
Plans to finalise UIGEA are currently underway as public pressure groups are slamming the Republican government’s decision to finalize plans to implement the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the United States.
According to opponents of the law, the rush to get these plans finalized on the very eve of President Obama’s inauguration shows just how desperate, but also illogical, the Republicans are to pass a law that is considered ambiguous and unenforceable by the top financial sectors of the US economy.
“Notwithstanding the skepticism about the efficacy of UIGEA and the burden it would place on our already strapped financial sector, the Administration, the Treasury and the Reserve Bank dedicated time and resources to get the rules finalised as the first of many Bush administration 'midnight regulations,” said the Poker Players Alliance in a statement against these plans.
The UIGEA regulations hit home to US Casino players last week as Microgaming, the largest casino software provider, pulled all of the casinos running it's software out of the US.
