Ladbrokes in Norway

Ladbrokes Wants to Appeal Norway Gambling Ruling.

Ladbrokes gambling operator is going all out in its campaign to bring fair and regulated wagering options to Norway and has announced that it will appeal a lower-court’s decision to reject its application to obtain a sports betting license in the country.

“We are appealing the judgment because the court's assessment of the evidence doesn't relate directly to our case,” said the Managing Director for Remote Betting and Gaming at Ladbrokes, John O'Reilly.

“The monopoly laws in Norway conflict with the EU Treaty, particularly with regard to the principles of freedom of establishment and the free movement of services. We continue to challenge for our right to be regulated in Norway and to provide free and fair competition to the monopoly.”

If successful, Ladbrokes will be targetting a country where the standards of living are high.  Norway is a rich country but the state monopoly has so far eluded other companies from getting into this lucrative market.  We'll just have to wait and see what happens but it will be interesting with Norway being a member of the EEC area whether or not they will follow the policies laid down.
