New York Racing Goes Mobile

Sports betting fans will soon be able to wager on New York thoroughbred races, thanks to a new online mobile betting platform that was created as a joint venture between the New York Racing Association and Sona Mobile Holdings Corp.

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board recently approved mobile betting as a means of placing wagers on horse races, and the Association jumped in immediately with the new platform that will extend its existing online package. The new application, to be known as mWager, will allow betting on thoroughbred racing via Blackberry and iPhone devices, although the Association said that it hopes to extend the offering to all mobile devices in the near future.

“We are excited to launch our first mWager application with such a significant organization as NYRA,” said Tony Toohey, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sona Mobile. “NYRA is an industry leader, they offer some of the best racing content in the world; they handled more than $1 billion on New York-based wagers last years, and have now secured their racing Franchise for the next quarter century.”

"mWager, in conjunction with NYRA's internet based platform, which we developed and launched last year, provides the customers the best, state-of-the-art mobile functionality in the industry," concluded Toohey.
This new mobile wagering application will give our customers a new level of wagering convenience, privacy and convenience by giving them the ability to water on a platform that offers real-time racing and wagering information anywhere, anytime on their own mobile device,” said the President and Chief Executive Officer of the New York Racing Association, Charles Hayward.
