Dark Day for Internet Freedom

Following on from our story last week regarding Kentucky and their aim to attain 141 gambling sites from some of the leading gambling providers online, the sites have been ordered to block Kentuckians from accessing their games.

The Kentucky court ordered 141 gambling sites to prove that they have the means of blocking state citizens from their games websites within one month, or risk having their domain names seized.

This ground-breaking ruling is just another event in an ongoing case brought against online gambling by the state’s governor Steve Beshear.

The decision was met with strong opposition across the board. “Judge Wingate has ignored the clear laws of his own state in coming to a decision that essentially green lights any jurisdiction, in the US and abroad, to ignore our rights and abuse their power to do away with competition or speech or content with which they oppose, regardless of the law,” said Joe Brennan for iMEGA. “This is a dark day for internet freedom.”

We ask ourselves, if this is upheld, just where will it end?  It's impossible for almost any site to uphold the laws of every juristiction in the World and religion would be top of the list if this goes through.  Can you imagine the uproar if political or religious sites have their domains taken to uphold the law in Kentucky or any other state or country in the World!
