World Series Of Poker Europe

A total of 363 entrants graced the stage in the Casino at the Empire in London for the 2nd World Series of Poker Europe, making a total prize pool of £3.63 Million with each player paying £10,000 to enter.  Pokers largest tournament to be staged outside of the USA was a resounding success but there were few UK honours on home territory.

In an epic final table that lasted a total of 21 hours, the longest final table in World Series of Poker history, John Juanda of the USA eventually took the title and the £868,000 prize money.

The final table saw some big names make the cut including John Huanda, Scott Fischman and the peoples favourite Daniel Negreanu.

It was Stanislav Alekhin of Russia that battled it out with Juanda in the end with the Russia holding the Americans victory win for an amazing five hours of heads up play.

The prize monies for the final table were dished out as follows.

1st John Juanda - USA, £868,800
2nd Stanislav Alekhin - Russia, £533,950
3rd Ivan Demidov - Russia, £334,850
4th Bengt Sonnert - Sweden, £271,500
5th Daniel Negreanu - Canada, £217,200
6th Scott Fischman - USA, £171,950
7th Robin Keston - UK, £135,750
8th Toni Hiltunen - Finland, £108,600
9th Chris Elliott - UK, £81,450

Entering heads up, both players had a fairly even chip stack and the match swung both ways but in the end, after a crippling hand a few plays earlier, Juanda finished off the Russian when Alekhin pushed all-in with A-9 and got called by Juanda’s holding K-6. The flop was 6-6-2 and it was all over for the unlucky Russian but not before Juanda hit quads with the river card.

The win gives John Juanda his forth World Series of Poker bracelet and made him only the second player to win the World Series of Poker Europe's main event.
