US Gambling Laws Investigated
The EU (European Union) has sent a team to visit the US to discuss and investigate their online gambling laws and the enforcing of them.
The online gambling world watched with interest this week as a special fact-finding team was sent on behalf of the European Union to the United States in order to investigate the continued US persecution against European online gambling companies.
The team wishes to quiz US Congress members about the UIGEA and its continued impact on the European market. It is understood that if no compromise can be reached, the EU will have no choice but to take the matter further and seek compensation.
“It looks very much as if this matter will be sent to the WTO at the end of the commission's investigation,” said an outside counsel for the Remote Gambling Association.
The UIGEA is been much discussed and deliberated since it's coming into power 2 years ago and has since been critisised by many in the US as well as other countries worldwide. The act only got through congress after being attached to the Safe Ports Bill at the last minute, an act that had to be signed to give more power over terrorism. It seems that many American's, especially those in power, just don't understand online gambling, either through casinos or poker games, and have tied it with corruption and illegal activities.
Of course, many countries have embraced the new gaming medium, including the UK, who as well as collecting the taxes from online gambling sites, also gain control over the laws and rules that allow gaming operations to take place.
In our minds, regulation is a much better state of affairs than prohibition which forces activities underground. It's worth noting that all of the gaming sites within the Doolallys.com pages are regulated and licensed.
