Ireland and Belgium go Online
Ireland cites UIGEA as prompt to online gambling changes and Belgium are to launch Online Lottery. According to a report issued by the Irish Casino Committee, the government should take full advantage of the fact that gambling companies have relocated to the UK and European regions after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed in the United States.
The report said: “Should this opportunity be grasped within the appropriate timescale, Ireland, as a gaming friendly centre of excellence, can reasonably expect to attract a reasonable portion of this dynamic industry.”
Belgium To Launch Online Lottery
Belgium’s government heard from the country’s Minister of Finance this week about plans to move the National Lottery to the internet within a year.
Didier Reynders said that the decision was based on a number of reasons, including the growing popularity of the internet. “If the National Lottery is expected to fulfill the objectives it has been tasked with by law and by management, it should follow this evolution. Consumers who wish to play should be given the possibility by the National Lottery to do so in a responsible and safe manner, by means of a modern and attractive game offering and using modern communication technologies.”
Games such as Keno, Euro Millions and Lotto will be offered initially.
