Antigua and US Gaming Dispute
Antigua and US Authorities Still Battling it Out
Antiguan representatives are considering what course of action to take as negotiations between the Caribbean island and the United States don’t seem to be making any headway in a bid to reach a payout settlement.
The US was ordered by the World Trade Organization to pay Antigua millions of dollars in damages for going against trade agreements and banning online gambling originating from the island.
The US has failed to meet any of the deadlines set – the last one was June 6th – and Antigua is said to be losing patience, despite its Foreign Minister, Errol Cort stating: “I am very encouraged that there are at least components of a possible settlement agreement. Having said that though, we have not yet reached a position where I can say that the issue has been settled."
