Bettson Challenges Svenska Spel’s Swedish Monopoly. Svenska Spel, the gambling group that holds a monopoly in the Swedish market has had its home turf challenged after Bettson announced that it would be opening a retail store in Stockholm this week.

The new Bettson store will provide players with an alternative gambling experience, according to Bettson, who also said that it was doubtful that Swedish authorities would hamper the new opening of the retail betting shop.

“We are taking this opportunity to challenge the Swedish gaming monopoly as we see betting shops as an interesting development of our business. Betting shops complement our online offering and our aim is to create more freedom of choice for our players,” said Pontus Lindwall, CEO of Betsson.

Sweden has said in the past few weeks that it intends on opening up the Swedish market and allow competition to Svenska Spel but, so far, no offical change to the existing laws have been made.
