Dutch Ban Gaming Transactions
Holland Decides to Clamp Down on Internet Gambling.
Dutch banks and credit companies were surprised this week to receive a list of 30-50 gambling companies from the government and were advised not to allow transactions to take place between these companies and Dutch citizens.
The government threatened to prosecute any bank that went against the orders.
This move is seen as yet another effort by the Dutch authorities to clamp down on the internet gambling industry and follow a protectionist policy. A spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Justice said: "It is illegal to offer gambling services in the Netherlands without a permit. These companies know they break the law.”
