ePassporte Have Left The US

One of the best methods of payment for online poker players in the United States, ePassporte, has reportedly left the online gambling market.

The leave was promoted by  following ‘a widespread investigation of Internet gambling including poker by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Southern New York’.

Although no official statement from the online payment processor has been forthcoming, it has been reported by various online poker rooms that ePassporte sent them official letters stating that they would be unable to process any more payments at this present time.

Online poker players in the US are understandably angry that ePassporte has not informed them of their departure from the market but with the passage of the UIGEA and pressure bearing down on payment processors in the US, it's going to become increasingly more difficult to deposit to online gambling sites if you're based in the US.

However, we would like to remind players that it is not illegal to gamble online in the US according to many sources.  The UIGEA bill passed only prohibits the transaction by a bank or payment processor and does not make it illegal to gamble online in most states.  However, check before deciding to play online if you are a US citizen.
