US Ignores Yet Another WTO Deadline in Antigua Online Gambling Conflict
Yet another deadline issued by the World Trade Organization to the United States to settle the online gambling conflict that it has with the Caribbean state of Antigua, has come and gone.
Last year, after a five-year conflict, a WTO arbitrary court ruled that the United States needed to come up with a settlement proposal to the tune of $21-million in compensation for going again regional treaties by blocking foreign operators from the local US gambling market.
Antigua, one of the largest online gambling countries that issues licenses and regulated online gambling companies, claimed that the US’s exclusionist policy had caused serious harm to the island’s economy. Despite expectations in the days leading up to the last deadline, March 31st, the United States did not respond with any type of message or proposal.
