“Imper1um” Joins Team Betfair
The Canadian online poker ace, Sorel Mizzi, better known as “Imper1um” at poker rooms across the net, has joined Betfair’s team of sponsored players. The announcement was made amidst much media hype at a news conference in Copenhagen at the beginning of the week. Mizzi joins another rising star, WSOP champion Annette Obrestad to create a team that Betfair management hopes will become “the dominant force in poker in the next decade”. Mizzi, only 21, has risen to incredible heights in the few years that he has been playing poker, and has recently been named the ‘best online poker player on the planet’ by PokerVerdict. Mizzi enjoyed a successful year in 2007 with his first taste of live poker tournaments, earning himself $600,000 at the Irish Open after taking third place. Bruce Stubbs, head of Betfair’s poker division said: “I am proud to add a player like Sorel Mizzi to our team. He is regarded as one of the best online tournament players in the world by many and has the results to prove it.”
