Stan James Introduces Mobile Service
The popular British online betting firm, Stan James, has announced the introduction of a mobile wagering service in response to a growing demand from its customers. The Gibraltar-based company’s new mobile gaming will be powered by Mfuse. Gamblers will be able to use this new technology to perform ‘in-running’ wagering for sportsbetting, whereby they can place their bets while the game is still on. This allows much wider flexibility as gamblers can bet from their own homes, from the pub or literally anywhere that is serviced by the handheld mobile systems.
Playwize Announces Further Losses
The online poker software provider, Playwize Plc, has announced the results of another disappointing financial quarter, with details showing that the company’s losses were even greater than last year’s. While Playwize’s losses were fixed at $3.75-million last year, this year’s numbers grew to over $4-million. The company has placed the blame of their demise firmly on the shoulders of the US government with the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Playwize hopes that a recent licensing agreement that it signed with Ladbrokes International Ltd. may improve its financial report in the next quarter.
Betfair Takes Home Top Casino Operator Prize
Betfair, the leading online casino site that offers exceptional gaming and quality, has proven its worth by grabbing the prestigious Casino Operator of the Year award at the 3rd annual eGaming Awards. The event was held at the Natural History Museum in London last week. Betfair’s popularity can be seen in the revenues that it generates ($364-million, with nearly $100-million in profits), as well as the number of players at its sites. To date, Betfair has one million registered users, with nearly half of them active players.
UIGEA Regulations Finally Published
When the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was signed into law last year, the government was given 270 days to present the regulations that would support the new law. This deadline was subsequently missed, although this week, the treasury and the Department of Justice finally published a 52-page document that is intended to enforce the UIGEA. The document is a guideline only, and interested parties still have until December to comment on the proposed set of laws that will effectively ban American financial institutions such as banks from performing transactions with online gambling companies. The document does not specifically name internet gaming businesses, nor does it ban checks as a form of payment to online casinos.
