MMO’s to be Regulated in the United Kingdom
Until recently, online gaming fans enjoyed playing what is known as Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMO) such as the Lord of the Rings series. New legislation governing online gambling in the United Kingdom, however, will bring MMO’s under the same guidelines as other UK casinos. This means that when the new laws kick in in September this year, MMO games that traditionally offer prizes or other incentives will also need to adhere to regulations and be subject to penalties if they do not meet the requirements set out by the UK Gambling Commission. One of the stipulations of the law is that these sites obtain operating licenses. It remains to be seen whether the new law will manage to encapsulate MMO sites as well.
