Poker Rules and How to Play Stud Poker
Five Card Stud used to be the most popular poker game around.
It is the game that is featured in all the poker movies.
Westerns always featured five card stud being played before
the bad guy gets shot. Anyway, I'm drifting away from the
point, back to the rules of five card stud poker.
The object of the game is to make the best five card hand
using the players own personal five cards, one which the
other players cannot see (hole card.)
This is one of the easier and more straight-forward poker
games to play, unfortunately, it is very difficult to find
a poker room on the internet that allows you to play five
cards stud. Luckily, there are one or two and the Golden
Tiger Poker Rooms are the best and the most preferred by
players.

To start, place an ante on the table. The ante amount will
se set by the card room. Often you will find that there
is no ante amount to be played when the betting amounts
are low.
During each betting round in five card stud, the players
will each have to Bet, Check, Fold or Raise. See our Dictionary
page for definitions of these.
Each Poker Player will be dealt two cards. One hole card
and one visible card.
The five card stud player with the lowest card showing
must bring-in and start off the betting.
After the first round of betting, a second visible card
is dealt to all Poker Players at the table. Another round
of betting follows. This continues until each Player has
one pocket card and four visible cards.
After the last visible card is dealt to each, a final round
of betting follows.
After the last round of betting, the remaining players
all display their pocket cards. The highest hand will win
the pot and take the money.
During the betting rounds, play close attention to the
other players visible cards and as soon as you see that
your hand cannot win, Fold.
If you can see that your hand cannot be beaten, raise the
stakes, quite often some players will continue until the
bitter end chasing their money. Don't feel sorry for them,
take the money and enjoy the success!
